Adolpho Lutz collection

Now in Museu National de Rio de Janeiro (MNRJ). Born in 1855 in Rio de Janeiro, Adolpho Lutz grew up in Bern. Back in Brazil, he studied natural history and medicine. That enabled him to make his pioneer contribution to the development of tropical medicine and medical zoology in Brazil. Lutz’ life‘ and work can be divided into three main phases, the practitioner (1881-1.892), the director of the Bacteriological Institute of the State of Sao Paulo (1893-1908) and the member of the Institute Oswaldo Cruz (I909--1938), and always the research worker, until his death (October, 1940).
