Zoological Society Wallacea
Research on the South East Asian fauna has a long tradition that is still continued today by a large number of amateur as well as professional zoologists. However, much of this research is of only limited impact because it is carried out in isolation, not as part of a cooperative network. Therefore, an important aim of the Zoological Society Wallacea (ZSW) will be to increase the exchange of information between scientists to optimize the effectiveness of biodiversity research dealing with South East Asian habitats. Of special importance will be increased involvement of amateur zoologists, a group that has made substantial contributions since the beginning of research on the South East Asian fauna, in starting and running projects.
